MARCH 16TH, 2009, 10:55      POSTED BY Ralf Beuker IN General Information, Jury Sessions

Time is flying like crazy these days and it feels like yesterday the submission deadline ended for the 17th edition of the BraunPrize ended!
Some good news first: Once again this edition has achieved another submission record that even topped the BraunPrize 2007! Accordingly for the 2009 edition the jury will have to evaluate 1074 entries from 54 countries across the globe for the first round of the jury process. Simply amazing and I suppose more and more students and graduates are recognising the springboard effect a participation in the BraunPrize can have on their career.

As some of you know, ever since 2007 Braun facilitated that I (as a sort of external node) can participate in and join the jury session for one day. Like last time I will blog about my impressions from the jury session as well as trying to get some of the jury members in front of my camera and ask them a few questions about their impressions as well.

As I will leave for Kronberg last Tuesday night in order to spend Wednesday with them you might however be interested in silently following the jury via the obligatory webcam. Regular pictures of this cam can also be found on the BraunPrize Newsboard as well.

Even though the webcam might appear quite low-tech these days (given all the other technologies around) I do think that it nicely fulfils the purpose of demonstrating transparency since you can see that the jury is ‘really’ working on all submissions for 3 full days! Compared to other Design competitions this is really a challenge and from my very own experience I can tell you that other ‘prestigious’ awards are dealing with these issues far less transparent! (no names disclosed here ;-))

So in conjunction with the webcam I will do some live blogging from the jury session on Wednesday and if you’d like to keep you posted via twitter as well (http://twitter.com/iterations). My advise for those of you who can’t wait is to check the archives of this blog and browse through the video interviews I’ve done back in 2007. Ah, and there are also some photos out there on Flickr! at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/braunprizeblog

Anyway stay tuned and watch for more information on Wednesday, March 18th, starting around 09:00 hrs (GMT+1)!
